A night excursion to Tyruliai
On May 25th LOD ornithologists S. Skuja and E. Pakštytė together with the botanist A. Kriaučiūnienė organised an excursion for Tyruliai community members. This event was devoted to Natura 2000 day, which is being celebrated in May overall in Europe. The event started before the darkness and participants had an opportunity to observe numerous breeding birds’ species: Red-necked Grebe, Common Tern, Black-headed Gull, various species of ducks, Whooper Swan and other birds of the Tyruliai bog. At the same time the nesting–boxes, which were erected during the project, were checked. In the evening the voices of following rare birds have been registered: Eurasian Woodcock, Little Crake, Common Snipe, Little Bittern, Eurasian Bittern. The excursion was finalised with discussion at the community centre, when the plans for the future cooperation were discussed.
