The action targeted on the restoration of the hydrological regime in certain parts of the Tyruliai bog, for which rather dry peat layer is characteristic. The practical restoration activities will be implemented basing on the officially approved technical project (Action A1) and are based on the site re-wetting process. The main idea of that process is to keep water in the area by the blocking of the drainage chanells. Basing on the experience from other sites of Lithuania, the channels will be blocked using wooden materials and local peat soil. The dams will be made by hands, i.e. without usage of special machinery. However, the tractors will be used for transporting of the cut woody material to the dams' construction sites, this is why tractor drivewr will be employed because of special licenses for operating of such machinery. More detail characteristics of such dams should be presented in the technical report on the restoration of the hydrological regime in certain parts of the project area. Basing on the experience from another sites and evaluating area of the re-wetting plots, number of the dams might fluctuate between 20 and 30. The exact location of the dams also will be indicated in the technical project (Action A1). This action shoul be implemented until the end of 2015.

This action addresses threat 3 (Overgrowing of the former open dry areas). Because of thicker peat layer comparing with surrounding areas, there are quite larger rather dry peat areas overgrown mainly with scarse woody vegetation. From the point of view of biodiversity, such areas has very law value. Besides,dry peat areas are a source of the remarkable carbon emission. Restoration of such areas starting from re-wetting of the site with following overgrowing with grass communities and formation of the bog vegetation complex will contribute to the significant reduction of the carbon emission and therefore reduction of climate change effect. Besides, open wet peat areas overgrown with sedge-grass are very attractive for number protected bird species including migratory Common Crane. Besides, dry peat areas are very risky from the point of view of fires prevention. Thus, re-weting of such areas determine significant decreasing of the fires risk.
